Polish Folk Art Exhibition

Our first exhibition since the pandemic celebrates the life and work of Teresa Latina and features artwork and designs, inspired by her Polish roots from; puppets to papercuts, ceramics, decorative art and designs from when Teresa worked at Goldberg's Department Store in Glasgow.

Teresa Latina was born on the 27th January 1945 in Krakow, Poland - a city renowned for its rich artistic traditions. She moved to the UK in 1971 and settled in Gorbals, Glasgow. Immersed in a new culture, she developed a deep awareness and appreciation of her Polish roots, which inspired her dedication to preserving her cultural identity.

Although her work draws upon the vibrant and intricate traditions of Polish Folk Art, Teresa infused her own art with a distinctive personal interpretation of these traditional forms. Her passion and creativity led to the creation of an extraordinary body of work that reflects the richness and beauty of her Polish heritage.

Teresa was employed by Goldberg’s Department Store in Glasgow from 1977-1983, designing their shop windows and in-store displays and even Santa’s Grottos. Following her death in 2018, Teresa left behind a remarkable archive of original designs, photographs and catalogues documenting this significant period of her life.

The Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre is pleased and honoured to present this retrospective exhibition of Teresa Latina’s work, curated on behalf of her daughter Caterina and son-in-law William Goodfellow.

Our cafe will be open for soup, sandwiches, children's fun lunch boxes, home-baking, snacks and children's craft activities. There is FREE PARKING at the rear of the Centre through our side gates.

There will be Children's craft activities; colour-in and cut-out puppets and masks in our cafe from 11AM - 4PM. Lots of designs to choose from, including new designs inspired by Teresa's time at Goldberg's Department Store. All materials provided felt tips, scissors, hole punches, at the cafe tables.  £2.50 each or 3 for £6.00.
